Orb Walking

Adds orb walking to RimWorld, allowing pawns to reposition after firing and then fire again. I know what you're thinking: isn't this just RunAndGun? To which I say: running and gunning has no soul! True orb walking means moving a little, then taking a shot.

Main Features

Manual Orb Walking After making a ranged attack, issue a move order. The unit will prepare its shooting cooldown while moving and fire immediately upon stopping. Automatic Orb Walking Enable “Automatic Orb Walking” for a colonist and they will automatically orb-walk based on the enemy's position, following these priorities:
  • Fall back when the enemy is closing in quickly
  • Strafe when the enemy is approaching slowly
  • Pursue when the enemy is retreating
  • Prefer positions that are easy to traverse and well suited for shooting
Per-Group Settings Orb walking can be enabled or disabled separately for each of the following groups:
  • Colonists
  • Enemies
  • Allies / neutral units
  • Non-human pawns
Additional Customization
  • Automatically seek out enemies
  • Ignore cover restrictions
  • Continue preparing aim time while moving
  • Continue reloading while orb walking (CE)
  • Keep chaining short repositioning moves while ranged cooldown remains; unfinished reloads also count when moving reloads are enabled
  • Remove ranged cooldown entirely
  • Remove the aiming time before the next shot entirely
  • Allow an unfinished attack cycle to be interrupted
  • Gain a brief, decaying movement-speed bonus after orb walking
  • Scale orb-walking speed by primary weapon mass using a configurable slowdown curve

Performance

Extremely lightweight in everyday play, with virtually no overhead. Even during large-scale orb walking with automatic enemy seeking, the performance impact remains well within reasonable limits.

Compatibility

CE: It should be compatible. I don't play with CE, so compatibility has only been tested at a basic level; please let me know if you run into any issues. RunAndGun: Why? Search and Destroy: Compatible, though this mod includes a lighter built-in alternative that can be enabled in the settings.
